Word on the street is that VIA Rail Canada will receive a long needed funding injection later today, but analysts think this will only cover the rebuilding of the HEP and LRC class coaches and the F40PH-2 locomotives - far from what VIA Rail needs to become a true player in the intercity transit mix.While the announcement is being made in the name of environmental policy, the conservatives have always had an eye to privatize the service. I doubt we'll see anything other than maintaining the status quo unless the liberals take power in the next election.
