(Paraphrased) Overheard on the Street

"I drove downtown today because it would have been like $12 to take the TTC with all the trips I have to do today... 'Cause it's $2.75 each way..."

With tokens it would be $2.25 each way, or a day pass would have been $9.00 flat. What disappoints me is that the decision this person made was as a result of not having the right information.

And odds are he paid at least ten to get a parking space!

I like that in London the oyster card automatically gave me the best deal. so if I travelled enough to qualify for a day-pass I would only be charged for that max value, even if I wasn't originally intending to get a daypass.

I also like that in London, the day travelcard even when not using Oyster costs less than it does in Toronto, despite having one of the highest costs of living in the entire world.

I live and work in york, but still enjoy spending time downtown. As someone who recently moved out of the city, I now realize how hard it is to get downtown without using the car for at least part of my journey. That is why I can’t wait for the subway extensions and other rapid transit enhancements. I also happen to work for the company responsible for planning, designing and building these projects. Our chief communications officer just started a new blog and wants to hear what people have to say. There’s also a poll about the subway extension – check it out and vote - vivanext.com/blog.
